Minor Midget 1996

The MSC Minor Midget AAA Colts took part in the Silver Stick Tournament over the weekend. This was a showdown between the top 16 teams in Canada and the top 8 teams from the United States . Barrie won 1 game and lost 2 but played well.

The Colts fell behind early to the Toronto Red Wings but skated to a 7-3 victory to open the tournament. Ryan Hyndman tied the game in the final minute of the first period. Barrie scored two goals in the last minute of the second period to take the lead. Ben Hughes had a pair of goals and an assist, Max Healy had a goal and two assists. Ben Skuce added a goal and an assist while Devon Gillham picked up a pair of assists. Cray Roberge and Austin Fischer rounded out the scoring. Quade Butler, Nick Chaykowsky and James Mense-Dietrich added helpers. T.J. Sherwood has a strong game for the win between the pipes.

Barrie outshot the Guelph Storm, 37-21 but could not beat a hot netminder and lost 3-0 in game 2.

The Colts played well as a team against undefeated Belle Tire from Detroit. They had a three goal lead with 5 minutes left in the second period, but their opponents woke up on a power play then struck 30 seconds later to change the momentum. The final score was a 5-3 loss for Barrie . Healy and Mense-Dietrich had a goal and an assist each. Hughes picked up a pair of assists. Skuce opened the scoring while Sean Anderson and Ryan Marks added helpers.
