Minor Midget 1996

The Colts competed in the ETA Minor Midget AAA Showcase this past weekend in front of standing room only crowds and won all three games. The boys started by beating the York Simcoe Express, 3-2 in the opening game. Barrie took a two goal lead with goals from Drake Board and Devon Gillham before YSE hit the board. Ben Hughes scored an insurance marker that would eventually prove to be the winner. YSE made it close scoring in the final two minutes, on a 6-on-4 power play. The boys worked hard to battle for the win. Ian Andriano was solid between the pipes. Ryan Young, Skuce, James Mense-Dietrich, Nick Chaykowsky, Austin Fischer and Gillham added assists.

Fischer was named Barrie’s player of the game by the scouts.

Barrie evened the season series with the Qui*nte Red Devils*, outscoring the m 5-2 with five unanswered goals. Brayden Laurin lead the charge with strong physical play resulting in a goal and an assist. Brayden Laurin was named the game MVP. Ryan Hyndman, Dakota Hynes, Max Healy and Cray Roberge also scored. Hughes had a pair of assists, while Mense-Dietrich, Fischer and Gillham added singles. T.J. Sherwood was steady for the win in net.

South Central Coyotes battled hard until the last minute of the second period when Barrie added another goal to take a 2-0 lead. Barrie would eventually add ano the r three to win 5-0. Andriano ga the red the shutout. Board had a pair of assists. Young, Healy, Skuce, Hughes and Fischer had goals. Laurin, Mense-Dietrich, Roberge and Chaykowsky added helpers.
Ben Hughes was voted Barrie ’s MVP for game three.
